Lennox Lewis - after defending his heavyweight title against Mike Tyson dedicated his victory to the Queen.

I have never been to a boxing match but as Sportsmen go I cannot but like Lennox Lewis.  He comes across as a really nice person.

For those of you who like to see what's going on in other people's houses!

There is a picture of me over at this brilliant project.

Ever since I found this link I cannot help myself.  I find I just tell myself that I am only going to play one game and before I know it an hours gone, it is addictive but great fun.

My favourite site at the moment - worth wasting a few minutes on - especially if you have ever flown and been served with something that resembles the contents of what should have gone in the bag situated in the front of your chair!

Check out which meal you would rate over at Airline Meals

Tuesday 11 June 2002

As it's Summer - ha ha you wouldn't know it by looking out of the window, because we are really talking rain, central heating and a lot of moaning, but as they say - 'look on the bright side.'

If you are free on Saturday 15 June you might consider putting your name down for the World Nettle Eating Challenge 2002 held at The Bottle Inn, Marshwood in Bridport.  Don't worry about any nettles getting stuck in the throat because there is a beer festival on at the same time which will help.

It all started when two farmers argued who had the longest nettles on their land.  So a competition started to see who did have the longest nettles.  This all changed in 1889 when Alex Williams entered his 15 feet 16" stinging nettles saying that if anyone beat it he'd eat it.  It must have been his lucky day because an American couple on holiday found a longer nettle and that is how the World Nettle Eating Challenge began.

After a quick couple of hours of work I went off to the nursery on the way home and bought some plants and a pot for the front door step.  I use to have two, one on each side of the steps, but after losing four expensive pots to frost I am making do with just the one this summer.  Have since scrubbed that green stone step and it's looking much better.

Harvey Nichols Summer Shopping Party tonight.  Last time I went I regretted driving there because the amount of free drink sloshing around was unbelievable. The big shame for me is that the store is too small - four floors filled with very little.  Plus I don't think their buyers have heard that size 14 and above exists.

Victoria.jpg (164746 bytes) There are two long shopping arcades in the centre of Leeds.  This one which has the side entrance to Harvey Nichols and several areas where you can sit and drink.  I have eaten many times in the outdoor Harvey Nichols area and have always been disappointed with the service and the food.
Vict2.jpg (105611 bytes) Leeds has some nice areas but it's a shame they have to be filled with the same old boring shopping chains.  This is the other arcade which has been beautifully restored, the only shame is the shops are not as interesting.  There is a Vivian Westwood shop though, but I have never seen anyone in it.
Vic.jpg (86166 bytes) Every time I visit I always have a yearning to go up and have a look on the top gallery, but it's not open to the public and I don't know if you can actually get access to it.  I wonder what it was like in its hay day?  A darn sight nicer than today, that's for sure.  All the interesting things about Leeds can be seen either looking up or down on the
mosiac.jpg (570239 bytes) floor!  There is also round the back of Debenhams a very nice Indian Restaurant called Dabars.  Looks completely awful from the outside - just a small modern glass door and a stair case up.  It's not until you get
top.jpg (224738 bytes) to the top of the stairs that you realise you are in a little Indian paradise.  The food isn't bad either - a nice touch at the end of the meal is that they bring round a complimentary plate of fresh fruit and a box of chocolates.  We didn't have a meal tonight as I am under strict calorie counting so it was a take away salad from M & S.

Did Harvey Nichols get any money out of me?  They sure did!  I ended up buying a handbag which I have had my eye on for three long years (a red Osprey one).  I usually wear black - it's so easy - but thought if I bought red I could wear it summer and winter!  Am I kidding myself?
